Onetime Portland startup Jive Software Bought a Bay Area Web Analytics Firm

Onetime Portland startup Jive Software said this morning that it’s bought a Bay Area web analytics firm, Proximal Labs. It’s Jive’s second big acquisition – it purchased a Colorado analytics firm called Filtrbox last year.

Jive makes social networking tools for businesses. The company, which won backing from prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalists, moved its headquarters to Palo Alto last year.

While most of Jive’s executive team now works in California, 160 of its 350 employees remain in downtown Portland and the company continues adding a small number of jobs here.

In a blog post this morning, Proximal CEO David Gutelius said the deal will accelerate the work of analyzing social activity on the Web. He did not report terms of the deal.

Jive, which has raised $57 million in venture capital, has repeatedly indicated that it plans an IPO this year. There’s widespread speculation, however, that the company is actually positioning itself for a sale.
