He reports to Brian Hetherington, regional managing director for Well Fargo’s insurance operations in the San Francisco Bay Area Region, who previously ran the San Francisco office as well.
Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Grotts was CEO of Willis of California for more than a decade, according to the Nov. 3 statement.
The insurance brokerage firm is the fifth largest in the world, according to trade publication Business Insurance, with more than 200 offices in 37 states, and generating $19 billion in premium volume. It ranked No. 1 on the San Francisco Business Times’ July 15 list of the Largest Insurance Brokers in the Bay Area, with $1.55 billion in 2010 Bay Area premiums.
The Bay Area region restructured in August, combining its North Bay and South Bay regions.
Wells Fargo ranks 23rd on the Fortune 500, with $1.3 trillion in assets.
